A man said he exposed himself to a schoolgirl because he was attracted to the size of her butt.
Joel Griffin, 29, made the admission after his arrest on March 24 for indecent exposure, the prosecutor told the court on Thursday.
Griffin pleaded guilty to indecent exposure at his arraignment on March 25.
The matter was adjourned to March 31 for the prosecutor to read a summary of the case against Griffin.
Chief Magistrate Joyann Ferguson-Pratt formally convicted Griffin after he accepted the prosecution’s case.
Sergeant 3605 Samantha Miah told the court that the sixth-grade student at Palmdale Primary was walking on Madeira Street when Griffin walked alongside her with his penis and butt exposed.
During his police interview, Griffin said he was attracted to the size of the girl’s hips, so he walked “towards her and walked alongside her with his pants below his hip” while showing his penis.
He told police that since his “hip was already showing he thought it would be sexy for his penis to show as well”. Though Griffin has a criminal record, this is his first conviction for indecent exposure, Miah said.
Ferguson-Pratt has requested a psychiatric report before sentencing.
Griffin was coherent and appeared to understand the proceedings. However, the magistrate said she wanted to “err on the side of caution” after Griffin admitted that he had previously been to Sandilands Rehabilitation Centre.
Griffin returns to court in May.
