A man who spanked a neighbor’s child received an absolute discharge after pleading guilty to assault.
Jamesley Isema, 26, of Lazaretto Road, admitted the assault charge when he appeared before Senior Magistrate Carolyn Vogt-Evans on Friday.
The 12-year-old boy’s guardian reported to police that Isema had hit him on July 14.
Isema’s lawyer, Domek Rolle, said his client and the child’s family lived in the same yard.
According to Rolle, the boy was in a tree and Isema told him to come down before he hurt himself.
Rolle claimed that Isema believed that it “takes a village to raise a child”.
Vogt-Evans did not record a conviction but gave Isema some advice. She said, “Don’t spank anyone’s children unless it’s yours. This could have turned out differently.”
