A man who allegedly raped his own daughter from 2016 to 2020 was charged with incest.
The 57-year-old resident of western New Providence appeared before Assistant Chief Magistrate Subusola Swain on five counts of incest yesterday.
Prosecutors allege that the man began sexually abusing his child, at age 10, in June 2016.
The girl is now 13 and the most recent incident allegedly happened on September 17. The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, did not have to enter a plea to the incest charges.
He was denied bail as the magistrate cannot consider bail for the offense. As a result, he has to apply for bail in the Supreme Court.
Prosecutors plan to send the case to the Supreme Court for trial with the presentation of a voluntary bill of indictment on November 14.
