A 23-year-old man faced a murder charge on Tuesday over the fatal stabbing of Charles Demeritte.
Prosecutors say Franco Ferguson, of Gilbert Street, killed Demeritte during a fight at a home in the Claridge Road area on September 11. Police said Ferguson was visiting his children’s mother when he got into an altercation with Demeritte.
Ferguson, who was represented by attorney Ian Cargill, did not have to enter a plea to the charge when he made his initial court appearance before Magistrate Kara Turnquest-Deveaux. Ferguson was denied bail. He returns to court on December 7 to receive a voluntary bill of indictment (VBI), which will move the case to the Supreme Court.
