A 56-year-old-man accused of indecently assaulting an 11-year-old girl was committed to stand trial in the Supreme Court yesterday.
Vincent Smith, of South Andros, appeared before Deputy Chief Magistrate Andrew Forbes to receive a voluntary bill of indictment that contains the prosecution’s case against him.
Prosecutors allege Smith inappropriately touched the minor in 2018.
Smith, who is on remand at the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services, will be arraigned on the indecent assault charge at an arraignment before Justice Bernard Turner.
Forbes told Smith that he would not be able to present alibi evidence at his trial if he didn’t provide his alibi immediately or within 21 days.
Smith, through his lawyer, Barry Sawyer, said he wasn’t sure whether he was in New Providence or Andros when the crime allegedly occurred.
