Man fined after police discover marijuana at his home

A man was fined $7,800 after police seized over five pounds of marijuana.

Craig Smith, 46, pleaded guilty to drug possession with intent to supply and simple drugs possession at his arraignment yesterday.

Police went to Smith’s home at Tundra Close on January 19 armed with a search warrant, the court heard.

First, the officers found three grams of marijuana inside Smith’s jacket pocket.

While searching a shed at the back of his home, they found a box with five pounds and seven ounces of marijuana inside.

In mitigation, attorney Tonique Lewis said Smith was a productive member of society.

She said he worked as a contractor and had built several parks for the government.

Magistrate Samuel McKinney fined him $7,500 or one year in prison for drug possession with intent to supply.

He was fined $300 or one month in prison for drug possession.
