Man in early 70s killed in early morning car crash

A man in his early 70s was killed yesterday after his vehicle crashed into a building on Chesapeake Road on New Providence shortly after 8 a.m., police said.

Officers responding to the scene found a silver 1997 Honda CR-V “lodged into a single-story structure”.

Police Press Liaison Audley Peters said both the vehicle and the structure received “extensive damage”.

“On inspection of the vehicle, the officers found an adult male in the driver’s seat suffering from injuries sustained as a result of the collision,” he said.

“Emergency medical services were summoned and, following their assessment of the body, it was determined that there were no signs of life.”

Peters said the driver was traveling south along Mackey Street when he experienced “some physical complication” and was alerted by other drivers who blew their horns.

He then turned east onto Chesapeake Road, where he lost control and crashed into the building.

“As it stands at this moment, it is considered an unclassified death,” said Peters, who added a man in the building was uninjured.
