Man jailed for two years over gun and drug possession

A man who was arrested after police seized a loaded gun and eight pounds of marijuana during a raid on his home has been jailed for two years.

Darius Hall, 22, of Coconut Grove, pleaded guilty to possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of ammunition and drug possession with intent to supply.

Acting on information on August 7, officers from the Anti-Gang and Firearms Unit descended on a home at Eighth Street to execute a search warrant.

The officers found multiple packages of drugs throughout the home and a .40-caliber pistol with 13 rounds of ammunition.

Magistrate Kara Turnquest-Deveaux sentenced Hall to two years in prison for the firearm and one year for the ammunition.

The sentences will run concurrently.

She fined Hall $8,000 on the drug charge. If the fine isn’t paid, the default sentence of one year will be served after Hall completes his term for the gun charge.

Despite Hall’s guilty plea, the prosecution will continue to prosecute the other occupants of the home.

Kevin Colebrook, Damatto Deveaux and Tanahja Dean were each granted $7,500 bail. They return to court on October 28.
