Man murdered on John Road

Two New Providence men were shot last night, one of whom died of his injuries, police said.

ASP Audley Peters said police received calls about a shooting on John Road and upon arrival at the scene found one man with gunshot wounds to the chest, and another not far away who had been shot in the head.

The man who was shot in the chest was transported to the hospital in a private vehicle and his condition was not known to police at the time. However, the man who was shot in the head died of his injuries after being transported to the hospital via emergency medical services (EMS).

Peters said both men appear to be between 30 and 40 years old.

While the victims were found near each other, Peters said he could not say for certain that the incidents were related.

“I couldn’t say if they are related,” he said.

“What we do know is that they were being pursued and they were shot and one succumbed to his injuries and the other at this time is being addressed or operated on by the doctors at the hospital.”

Peters said a man is in custody in connection with the incident.

“Fortunately, as a result of the investigation of the officers, we have a male in custody who is assisting police with this

investigation,” he said.

“And we want to assure members of the public that officers will continue to do their best in assuring our presence on the street to quell these conflicts between individuals and also to assure them that we are working on the information that we are receiving from them in taking firearms off the street.”

The latest murder comes only a day after a man was killed on Grand Bahama on Sunday night.

According to police, around 8:30 p.m., a lone gunman approached the victim while he was standing at the entrance of Island Luck Web Café on East Sunrise Highway, shot him in the head and fled on foot.

The victim died on the scene.
