A 22-year-old man was yesterday sentenced to two and a half years in prison for having an unlicensed firearm.
Police arrested Makiko Holmes on August 27, when they executed a search warrant on his McKinney Drive home and found a .40-caliber Smith and Wesson pistol, four rounds of .40 ammunition and 13 rounds of 9mm ammunition.
Holmes pleaded guilty to possession of an unlicensed firearm and possession of ammunition at his arraignment before Magistrate Samuel McKinney.
McKinney told Holmes that firearms offenses were taken seriously, given the high number of gun-related crimes.
Holmes’ sentence could be extended to three years in prison if he doesn’t pay a $3,500 fine.
The one-year sentence imposed for the ammunition will run concurrently.
