A man was shot and killed on Marmalade Close, off Wulff Road, yesterday, according to police.
The incident, which happened just steps from New Beginnings Nursery and Pre-School, took place shortly after 9 a.m.
The Nassau Guardian observed parents and guardians collecting children from the nursery and pre-school around 10:20 a.m.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Audley Peters said emergency medical services declared the victim, who is believed to be in his late-20s, dead at the scene.
While declining to disclose whether the victim was known to police, Peters said he lived in the “immediate neighborhood”.
“We’re canvassing the community to garner the information that is necessary to bring this matter to a closure,” Peters told reporters at the scene.
“We are pleased that we are getting that information. However, we ask anyone in the community who may have seen what happened to contact the police at 502-9991.”
He said there is no evidence to suggest the incident was drug or gang-related.
Peters said police have a lead on a suspect.
He said no vehicle was seen leaving the scene, noting that there is “a possibility” that the suspect fled on foot.
Peters also appealed to the public to contact the police about individuals who may be in possession of firearms “so that we may carry out the various protocols that are necessary to take these guns off the streets”.
