The University of the Bahamas (UB) Mingoes could not withstand the fire power from the Western Warriors Gladiators in Bahamas Football Association (BFA) action this past Sunday at the Roscow A.L. Davies Soccer Field.
The Mingoes dropped an 8-1 loss to the Gladiators, remaining winless during the season at 0-5. The Gladiators record improved to 2-2-1 during the season.
The lone Mingoes goal came from Bulinsky Cousin in the 88th minute of the game. He said one of the major problems for the Mingoes on Sunday was that the side was missing an integral part of its defense. Oakland Duncombe didn’t suit up.
“He is a big part of our defense and we just could not get out of their side of the pitch,” said Cousin. “If he was here I think we could have done a lot better. We will get them next time.”
Cousin added that the team lacked confidence, among other things.
“We lacked confidence but we also had a lack of fitness and we did our best to hang on but we have to work on that,” he said.
The Mingoes are scheduled to play the Renegades at 4 p.m. this Sunday. Despite calls from the Bahamas Olympic Committee (BOC) and Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis in a national address on Sunday night for all sporting activities in the country to cease during this time as a measure to control the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19), there has been no word from the BFA on a possible cancellation of the 2020 season.
