More stores allowed Saturday operations for essential workers

The National Insurance Board (NIB) is permitted to distribute checks to the general public on Saturdays during the lockdown, according to the Emergency Powers (COVID-19 Pandemic)(Lockdown)(Amendment)(No. 3) Order, 2020.

The original order had permitted NIB to distribute checks at the Thomas A. Robinson National Stadium between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

The new order, which was released on Tuesday, also granted permission for more businesses to open to essential workers on Saturdays.

Water depots are permitted to open between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Pharmacies are permitted to offer curbside services between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Gas stations — offering external services only — are permitted to open between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Food stores were previously required to close by 1 p.m. on Saturdays but the order grants them permission to open until 5 p.m.

Wholesale and retail grocery stores are permitted to open between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. on weekdays on Grand Bahama.
