No interpreter stalls case of alleged drug mule

A magistrate on Tuesday deferred the arraignment of an alleged drug mule because an interpreter was not available.

The 55-year-old Surinamese national will now be arraigned today at 2 p.m. regarding the seizure of 10.4 pounds of cocaine.

Court officials were unable to find someone who spoke Dutch Creole for the woman’s court appearance.

According to police, immigration officers found the cocaine strapped to the woman’s body during a search.

The suspect, who arrived at Lynden Pindling International Airport on September 15, had been refused entry by immigration after she arrived from Panama, police said.
