Comfort, comfort my people, says your God. Speak tenderly to Jerusalem, and proclaim to her that her hard service has been completed, that her sin has been paid for, that she has received from the Lord’s hand double for all her sins. – Isaiah 40:1-2
What troubling and uncertain times we are living in, and many would confess that indeed this is so. With untold natural disasters, crumbling, yet dictatorial political dynasties, followship ahead of leadership, surge in hate crimes, a terrible assault on family life and a turn away from faith and values, the time is nigh for calls to national sanity and the path marked right.
Not that there have not ever been times like this – for what goes around comes around greater than its beginning. So, here we are thousands of years ago, the Prophet Isaiah is being led by God to bring about a change to a people who are immersed in injustice, poverty, neglect and sin, for when desperate situations get beyond humanity, divinity has to bring about change. Comfort, comfort my people, says your God.
God’s servants and messengers here on planet Earth are tasked and mandated to proclaim the good news of the gospel. Outside of that, self brings about confusion and a hindrance to those in sin.
This is the time to comfort others as they go through storms of one sort or another in their lives. Most importantly, is to know how to speak to others. During this time, there is no need to be abrasive, cold and uncaring, as the word of God declares that we must address whatever the warfare in their lives may be. We have to pray that sins be forgiven and newness of life comes in and blessings will flow in abundance. The journey of life is not to be toyed with, but to be an exercise of faith, kindness and love.
An unknown writer penned these words of wisdom some time ago. Life is a challenge, meet it. Life is a gift, accept it. Life is an adventure, dare it. Life is sorrow, overcome it. Life is a tragedy, face it. Life is a duty, perform it. Life is a game, play it. Life is a mystery, unfold it.
Life is a song, sing it. Life is an opportunity, take it. Life is a journey, complete it. Life is a promise, fulfill it. Life is love, enjoy it. Life is beauty, praise it. Life is spirit, realize it. Life is a struggle, fight it. Life is a puzzle, solve it. Life is a goal, achieve it.
