Two people were rescued in waters just off New Providence by the Royal Bahamas Defence Force a short time after their plane crashed near Love Beach today, authorities confirmed.
Chief Investigator at the Air Accident Investigation Department Delvin Major said the aircraft went down shortly before 5 p.m.
“The Air Accident Investigation Department (AAID) was notified around 4:45 p.m. of an aircraft crash involving DC3 aircraft, which departed Opa Locka, Florida, United States for the Lynden Pindling Int’l Airport Nassau, Bahamas,” Major said.
“Reports are the aircraft declared an emergency due to left engine failure and crashed a short time thereafter. The two pilots on board were rescued in good shape by the Royal Bahamas Defence Force and taken to the base.
“Responders are currently on scene trying to locate the aircraft, which at this time appeared to be submerged. The investigation is under the direction of the AAID and more information will be provided when available.”
The two people involved are both pilots.
