PM tours new MacFit360 gym

MacFit360 on Baha Mar Boulevard was officially opened yesterday.

Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis, Minister of Health Renward Wells, Minister of National Security Marvin Dames, Progressive Liberal Party Leader Philip Brave Davis and MacFit360 founder and President Jimmy Mackey were present at the ceremony, held outside the newly constructed building.

“I was very pleased when I learned that a new fitness center would be opening here catering to Bahamians and residents as well as short-term vacation renters and other visitors,” Minnis said during his remarks.

“I congratulate Jimmy Mackey, his family and staff for all of the hard work they have done to realize the dream of this new and beautiful facility. This fitness center is world-class in terms of facilities and training. The project was delayed for a time because of the COVID-19 pandemic but, when construction was allowed to continue, work resumed offering employment to a number of people including a number of subcontractors.

“The result is a 17,000-square-foot facility unlike any other in the region and allowing for maximum, safe distancing during workouts.”

He noted that the facility has a state-of-the-art ventilation system, which is connected to the air conditioning system “to reduce the risk of transmission of various viruses and to comply with and exceed new international standards and protocols”.

Mackey said the facility will be able to host “the best of the best athletes in the world”.

“The thought process for this building was to create, to build and they will show up,” he said.

“Today, they will show up.”

Mackey said he loves to create an environment “where we can ignite, energize and transform any person who walks through that door from this day forward”.

“Fitness is a lifestyle,” he said.

“It’s not a thing. It’s not a weight loss. It’s a lifestyle and we all know that, based on what’s been going on for the past year, this should be the number one thing we should be seeking right now.”

The building features a swimming pool, a Pilates area and a massage therapy room.

It also boasts two levels with workout equipment.

The prime minister took the opportunity to test the equipment during a facility.

Minnis completed six hanging leg raises and challenged the opposition leader to do the same.

Davis laughed and walked away with Minnis as they continued the tour.
