Police discover body of man and Mako boat off Andros

Over a week after two men went missing off Andros, police said yesterday they recovered the body of a man in waters off the island.

While police did not confirm the identity of the body, they said it was found along with a 19-foot Mako boat approximately 20 miles off Morgan’s Bluff.

Police said they will await an autopsy report to confirm the man’s identity and the exact cause of death.

Harold Fitzgerald, 49, and Ryan Russell, 38, left Lowe Sound, Andros, in a boat on Christmas morning and never returned, according to reports.

Police said the pair were planning to fish near Joulter Cays, roughly 10 miles off the coast of Lowe Sound.

According to Kortney Cartwright, one of Fitzgerald’s relatives, he and Russell left in a white Mako with a single 200 horsepower engine.

Cartwright said the men were expected to return by 6 p.m. Christmas day.

However, their families said they had not heard from them.
