Police investigating misappropriation of funds at MOE

Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police Paul Rolle confirmed yesterday that police are investigating reports of misappropriated funds at the Ministry of Education (MOE).

Rumors circulated yesterday that several people were taken into custody in connection with the investigation of the misuse of overtime at the ministry. However, Rolle could not confirm whether or not that was the case.

“The police are conducting an investigation into the reports of misappropriated funds from the ministry of education,” he said.

“Out of respect for the persons that are involved, I do not wish to comment any further in the media.”

Asked about the matter yesterday, Minister of Finance Peter Turnquest said he was not sure of the details.

“I’m not aware that they were taken into custody,” he said.

“I know that there has been an issue, and I would wait for police to give a statement on that. I don’t know the status at the moment.”
