Bahamians Adrianna Munnings and Orlando “Landlord” Miller survived the second round of voting to emerge into the finals of the Prayze Factor Awards.
Munnings is in the 12th season’s finals in the Urban Solo category with Quardrius Salters, Chief Apostle and Danny Hudson. The quartet emerged from a second-round group of 13 to position themselves at a one-in-four chance of taking the title.
Miller is up against Shonda English, Amanda Lynn, Vickie Favors and Shariffa Edwards in the Industry Choice of the Year category. They emerged from a group of 17.
Munnings and Miller both survived the first two rounds of voting earlier in the year to make it into the finals, and are among the many nominees across approximately 100 categories waiting with bated breath to find out whether they’ve won their categories. Winners will be announced at the Prayze Factor Awards ceremony in Atlanta, September 19-22.
Miller likes his chances at winning but said for him it was an honor to just be nominated again.
“I’m thinking positively and hopefully will bring another win back.”
He is no stranger to winning at the Prayze Factor Awards, having won TV Host of the Year and TV Show of the Year for his show Positive TV with Landlord in 2018.
The gospel singer says the Prayze Factor Awards presents a great opportunity for independent artists to take advantage of a platform presented for them to be seen and heard internationally.
“Going to it got me to connections to get to where I am today. Artists who want to look forward to that international [experience], the Prayze Factor Awards is a good step,” he said.
Munnings’ first EP, “Soul of a Woman”, was released during the 2018 Prayze Factor Awards weekend in Atlanta, Georgia. Her song “Smile A While” was well-received during artist showcases, which featured performers across the United States (U.S.) and several Caribbean and African nations.
The Mastic Point, Andros native was also invited to participate in a multi-city U.S. tour in June.
Munnings and Miller advanced out of the first round during which the public was allowed to have their voices heard via voting, into the crucial second round voting process in which all the nominees started at zero again. Voting in round two was exclusively for The International Music Association (TIMA) members and executives.
The Prayze Factor Awards, founded and produced by Apostle Dr. Teresa Jordan, is a platform specifically and strategically formatted to bring exposure to the inspired artist movement. The awards show is designed to expose faith-based arts.
Nominations are for artists looking to gain more exposure, increase their fan base and make their music/ministry more relevant in the gospel and inspirational industry. It is a fan-driven platform, so artists are required to engage their fans in voting, commenting and promoting their ministries.
While it’s a friendly awards competition, the organizers/founders say it is more important that artists utilize the platform to draw those who are unaware of their ministry to the table where they cannot only experience the ministry, but experience the realness of Christ.
There are three rounds during a period of Prayze Factor promotions. Each round is designed to accomplish the aforementioned goals for the artists. Nominees will be afforded several opportunities for promotions of their ministries, opportunities to engage their fans and opportunities to show the nations the strength of performing arts ministry. To maximize full potential of this platform, they say artists must be in the frame of mind that God deserves their very best every step of the way and without excuse. Those that grasp and understand that, they say, are rewarded greatly by the time the season’s finale airs as their presence in the gospel community is greatly advanced.
To be nominated, candidates have to have a single, EP or full project already released. Nominations are handled and vetted through TIMA and announcements are made in April of each voting year.
Voting is done via online polling and is a popularity round of elimination by the general public. The general public openly votes and promotes their favorite nominees during round one of each voting year. The top nominees in each category advance to the final round and winners are announced during the Prayze Factor weekend of celebration during which winners or their representative must be present to receive their prize.
