Prison officer charged with drug possession with intent to supply

A 47-year-old corrections officer was among three people charged with drug possession with intent to supply on Friday afternoon.

Acting on information, Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) officers searched a home on May 15 off Fire Trail Road and discovered 13 ounces of marijuana worth $1,950.

As a result, the officers arrested Principal Officer Kevan Seymour, 47, of Fourth Street, The Grove, and the occupants of the home, Jamaican, Suzette Wright-Smith, 47, and her son Philip Smith, 19.

DEU officers brought the trio to court later that day under heavy police guard.

Seymour, Wright-Smith and Smith denied the charge during their arraignment before Chief Magistrate Joyann Ferguson-Pratt.

The magistrate refused bail and advised them of their right to make a bail application in the Supreme Court.

Their trial is scheduled for September 1.
