Save Our Bahamas denounces the killing of children in The Bahamas

Dear Editor,

Members of Save Our Bahamas, like so many Bahamians, were horrified to learn over the weekend that another child was killed as a result of violence, this time on the island of Eleuthera. This now accounts for the third child to be murdered in our country within the past two weeks.

We strongly denounce the senseless murder of our nation’s children, some of whom according to reports are under five years of age – babies who are just beginning to taste the joy of life and who have been robbed of their future at the hands of steel-cold, heartless killers.

The tragic killing of children in The Bahamas at the hands of misguided adults, represents a major moral and social deficiency within our nation.

For anyone to consider and carry out the murder of innocent children, they have not only crossed every line of human decency, but signify and confirm they lack any form of real human emotion, empathy and conscience.

What could be gained by taking the life of a defenseless child? As a society of law-abiding citizens, we simply cannot sit idle and allow these heinous acts to go unaddressed and certainly not go unpunished.

Every child in our country is precious and invaluable.

The Bible reminds us in Psalm 127:3, “Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him.”

Our children indeed are not only our heritage but the lifeline of our nation’s future, a future that needs not only our guidance but our protection.

We offer our sincere condolences to the families of the children who have been recently killed by violence, and we continue to cover each family in prayer as they face these most difficult days ahead.
