A stepfather knocked out a six-year-old boy’s tooth and pulled his testicles, a court heard yesterday.
The man pleaded guilty to cruelty to children at his arraignment before Magistrate Kara Turnquest-Deveaux.
The court placed him on probation for one year and ordered him to attend parenting classes. He is banned from having contact with the child until he completes the classes.
Failure to comply with the court’s order will result in a one-year sentence at the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services.
The child’s father reported the incident to the Elizabeth Estates Police Station on April 22, the prosecutor Inspector Claudette McKenzie told the court.
She said the minor lives with his father. However, the mother wanted the child to stay with her during the quarantine, McKenzie told the court.
The father went to pick up his son after receiving a call from another relative.
The father said he met his child crying and shaking, McKenzie said.
However, the boy didn’t reveal what had happened until he took him home.
In court, the stepfather admitted to disciplining the child “for engaging in a sexual act” with a male cousin.
He said, “I beat him and I told him that this is used for girls and not boys.”
