Police on Saturday arrested a man wanted for questioning in connection with the murder of a father of three who was shot and killed during an armed robbery on Wednesday evening.
According to reports, officers went to an abandoned building on First Street, Coconut Grove, shortly after 12:30 p.m., arrested the suspect and recovered a 9 millimeter pistol with eight rounds of ammunition.
Mario Cartwright, 44, was killed shortly before 6 p.m. as he entered Manda’s Variety Store on First Street, Coconut Grove, as gun-wielding robbers were leaving, police said.
Albert Delhomme, who has operated the business for four years, said two masked men raided his establishment and robbed it of $400 before shooting Cartwright.
He said the men gathered the employees and customers and forced them to the back of the store as they robbed the place.
“As he was coming in and they were walking out — bam, two times. They shot him [in the shoulder] and they shot him in his chest,” said Delhomme, who was not present during the incident, but watched it on surveillance footage.
Cartwright’s murder came after authorities claimed the fear of crime in The Bahamas was down.
