A suspected armed robber was shot by police during an exchange of gunfire at a business establishment on Carmichael Road earlier today, police said.
According to reports, police were called to the scene after two armed men posing as window cleaners held a business proprietor and an employee hostage at Portraits a La Sawyers.
Chief Superintendent Solomon Cash, of the Central Detective Unit, said the men were allowed in the business as a result of their disguises.
When police responded to the scene, one of the men fired at the officers, Cash said.
Officers returned fire hitting one of the suspects. Officers then entered the business and struggled with another suspect, Cash said.
A police officer was injured during the struggle, however it is unclear what sort of injury he received. Both men were arrested and one is being treated for a gunshot injury.
Police recovered a firearm on the scene.
The proprietor and employee are said to be traumatized but otherwise unharmed.
