Trial date set for accused gun trafficker

A January 26 trial date has been set for a Florida resident accused of smuggling guns into The Bahamas through Bimini.

Armani Thomas, 24, of Hallandale Beach, is accused of importing four pistols and 27 rounds of .40 ammunition into The Bahamas between February 2020 and January 2021.

He was arrested on the allegations while in Bimini.

The firearms and ammunition were seized on different occasions and were allegedly traced to purchases made by Thomas in the United States.

Thomas, who has American and Bahamian citizenship, pleaded not guilty to charges of importation of firearms and ammunition at his arraignment before Chief Magistrate Joyann Ferguson-Pratt in July.

Thomas was not present for the fixture of the trial date; however, his lawyer Jerone Roberts promised to advise him.

Thomas is on $60,000 cash bail.
