Trial stopped due to defendant’s illness

A judge yesterday discharged a jury in a murder case because the accused was feeling ill.

Trevor Smith, 39, was on trial before Justice Carolita Bethel charged with the October 9 and 10, 2012 stabbing death of Anthonique Hunter.

Hunter’s body was found in the South Beach apartment that she and Smith shared on October 10, the day before her 21st birthday. The unemployed woman had been stabbed in the chest. Prosecutors had produced Smith’s alleged confession before Bethel dismissed the jury.

Smith returns to court on April 18 to receive a trial date.
