Vixens, Intruders pick up wins in the NPVA

It hasn’t been the usual dominant season for the Scottsdale Vixens this year, but they are still in the mix as they contend for an unprecedented 15th straight New Providence Volleyball Association (NPVA) women’s title.

The Vixens turned back the Lady Technicians in straight sets on Wednesday at the D.W. Davis Gymnasium. They won, 25-19, 25-22 and 25-14, improving to a 5-3 win-loss record on the season. With the loss, the Lady Technicians dropped to 2-8.

The Vixens occupy the third spot in the playoff race while the Lady Techs are fifth and two games out of a playoff spot. Just the top four teams will advance to the playoffs.

The Vixens have won all six sets against the Lady Technicians this season.

In the men’s division, the three-time defending champions National Fence Intruders needed four sets to defeat the Technicians. They prevailed in the featured match, 23-25, 25-16, 25-4 and 25-18.

The Intruders trail just the Defenders in the men’s standings. With the win over the Technicians on Wednesday night, they improved to 8-3 on the season. The Defenders, who lost to the Intruders in each of the past three championship series, currently lead the men’s standings with a 9-1 record. Their only loss of the season was to the Technicians who fell to a 5-7 record with that loss to the Intruders on Wednesday. The Technicians are tied for third in the standings with the Warhawks.
