We will rise again

Dear Editor,

The Democratic National Alliance (DNA) is saddened by the level of devastation brought on the Abacos and Grand Bahama by Hurricane Dorian.

Words cannot express the grief, pain and anxiety that this national tragedy has caused Bahamians and residents of The Bahamas. As a closely-knit society, almost every single Bahamian has been impacted by what can only be described as a catastrophe of epic proportions.

It is in moments of despair that the indomitable spirit of the Bahamian people is displayed. I am deeply moved by the outpouring of love and support that has been shown by Bahamians and friends of The Bahamas during this crisis.

Volunteers have joined hands with members of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force, Royal Bahamas Police Force, U.S. Coast Guard, other government agencies, international partners and charitable organizations, in rescue efforts and to bring relief to those impacted by this historic storm. We have been our brothers’ and sisters’ keepers; the best of us has been revealed in the worst of times for our nation.

Members of the DNA have been on the ground working with several charities, civic groups and organizations, as we seek to rebuild. We have solicited the assistance and contribution of our supporters and the general public in order to help those in need. However, we know that the recovery and rebuilding process will take time. Putting the proverbial pieces together will require cooperation and collaboration by us all.

The DNA renews its commitment to stand with our brothers and sisters whose lives have been significantly changed by Hurricane Dorian. We will stand with you and be with you throughout the journey to normalcy.

Our hearts go out to those who have lost loved ones and are unable to locate their loved ones in the aftermath of the storm. We offer our prayers for the bereaved and those in mourning. The entire nation mourns with you as we pray for national healing that only God can provide.

We will rise again from the ashes like the phoenix and we are comforted by the words in the Book of Haggai, that the glory of the latter house shall be greater than the former. In the interim, we will lift up our head to the rising sun as our national anthem encourages us to do and our eyes will be lifted to the hills from whence cometh our help.
