When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the Lord your God. – Isaiah 43:2-3
Wow! What powerful and assuring words of comfort when situations in life get beyond our grasp. If experience has not knocked at your door, as is deduced in our text today, just keep on living, and you will sooner or later find yourself to the place where self-reliance is of no help, for help must come from the God of all creation.
Israel did not understand what God was doing in the life of their country, because they were in opposition to the words of God through his prophet, and so found themselves imprisoned and held captive, when no one to come to their aid. This situation further threw them in a state of hopelessness.
The world is in such a topsy-turvy situation, never before experienced, that no matter how high or low, rich or poor, educated or not educated, white or black you are, we are all experiencing some form of challenges in our lives or the lives of our loved ones. Truth is, the world is burdened with fear from moment to moment, not to speak of what tomorrow holds.
All through the Bible, fear has reigned supreme in the hearts, minds and lives of mankind, but the breaking news to a fearful world still resonates from the voice of the angel – “fear not” and “don’t panic”.
But now thus saith the Lord who created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed thee; I have called thee by thy name, thou art mine.” – Isaiah 43:1
When thou pass through the waters, I will be with thee. How many are going through stressful financial waters, foreclosure of life’s holdings, waters of bitter divorces, ungrateful children, with not a semblance of respect or regard? Know that God is with you and the “waters of your situation” will not claim you as their victim. No, you are not going to drown, for you are too good a spiritual swimmer.
When you are caught up in the rapids of waters from the river – fast flowing swirling waters of discontent, insecurity, ill health, disappointment, stress and strife, job loss, no income – you will not be swept away and cannot be found, for those who said they will not see you make a comeback in life – you will be able to invite them to “tables of newness” that God will spread for you before their very own eyes.
When you walk through the fire of being despised, rejected, neglected and subjected, there will be no GPS evidence of your journey, for the Lord God will be your protector.
Passing through the water is for the enemy to see you “drowned” in your circumstances. Being caught up in the rapids of life is merriment for the enemy.
Whatever your situation, know that God knows. He sees, he hears, and he cares. And only he can turn the darkness into light, weeping into joy, poverty into wealth, sickness into health, hate into love, oppression into freedom and wrong into righteousness.
