A college student was yesterday remanded to prison over claims that she blackmailed a bank manager.
Jamia Newbold, 29, faced charges of extortion and attempted extortion when she appeared before Senior Magistrate Carolyn Vogt-Evans.
Prosecutors say Newbold demanded and received $28,200 from then-FirstCaribbean bank manager Cleopatra Deal, on July 11, 2019, after she threatened to expose an allegedly unauthorized loan.
Newbold is accused of attempting to extort $33,500 from Deal on August 2, 2019.
Newbold, who is represented by Glendon Rolle, denied the charges.
She returns to court in March for trial.
