Woman accused of impersonating a police officer sent to Sandilands for mental evaluation

A woman arrested for impersonating a police officer was yesterday remanded to the Sandilands Rehabilitation Centre for a mental evaluation.

Yvonne Sargent, 59, of Alexander Boulevard, appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Subusola Swain on a charge of falsely pretending to be a police officer.

Sargent did not have a lawyer at her arraignment.

When the magistrate asked Sargent if she knew why she was in court, she replied, “They said I was impersonating a police officer.”

Sargent pleaded not guilty, and added, “I wasn’t trying to be a police officer.”

Swain asked Sargent if she had ever been to Sandilands.

She replied that she had not. That’s when the magistrate informed her that she would be sent there for an evaluation.

The matter has been adjourned to October 23.
