A drug mule was yesterday jailed for two years and six months for attempting to smuggle two kilos of cocaine into Florida.
Ava Minns, of Montell Heights, was arrested on February 15, 2017, after police found the drugs hidden in her luggage.
Minns had already cleared customs and was at the gate in the departure lounge at Lynden Pindling International Airport when police brought her back to U.S. Customs for a secondary search, the court heard.
Minns was asked to point out her suitcase — and she pointed out the bag in question. The officers found the drugs concealed in a false bottom.
Minns, who represented herself, testified that she had borrowed the suitcase from a friend who was only identified by her first name.
Acting Deputy Chief Magistrate Subusola Swain heard the case.
Sergeant Lincoln McKenzie prosecuted.
